Balance & Peace History with SBCUSD
In September 2016, the SBCUSD School Board approved the hiring of three Program Specialists to help build and support the district’s mental health initiatives. Jennifer Peau was brought on as part of this team and contributed to the development of the Tier 3 system of support. She played a role in naming the team H.E.A.R.T. - Help, Empower, Advocate, Resilience through Therapy, and was involved in developing the district’s mental health support system. During this period, the H.E.A.R.T. team supported over 26 schools and provided individual and group therapy to many students. Peau served as the team lead, working collaboratively to build a comprehensive support system for students across the district. She left SBCUSD in 2022 and now continues her work through her private practice, Balance & Peace Family Counseling Inc.

In July 2025, the SBCUSD School Board approved a contract with Balance & Peace Family Counseling Inc. The program officially launched in August 2025, with associates providing individual and group therapy to students under clinical supervision of BP Counseling. In addition, mental health consultation and collaborative support are offered to district staff, reaffirming the district’s strong commitment to student mental health.
